The Winter Sounds are a dynamic, high-energy indie rock band led by lead singer and keyboardist Patrick Keenan. Their sound features intense, driving drums contrasted by soaring, melodic guitar, synth, and violin lines. Keenan's voice carries an emotion that is simultaneously hopeful, yet desperate.
Keenan started the band with a group of musicians who were recording what would become the band's debut album in 2006. This album, Land of No Output, led to an extensive tour and landed the band a record deal with Livewire Recordings.
Livewire led The Winter Sounds to record Porcelain Empire, which crystallized the band's synth pop, driving, indie-rock persona. In 2007, The Winter Sounds spent most of the year on the road, playing an unbelievable 217 shows across America. They made appearances on notable shows such as NPR’s “All Songs Considered”, and were labeled one of the hardest working indie bands of the year.
The Winter Sounds continued to tour in 2008, and released their most recent record on Nashville's Theory 8 Records in 2009. Church of the Haunted South is a more refined and mature album, showcasing the talent the band had developed on tour. It emphasizes the group's multiple singers with two and even four part harmonies on many of the tracks.
Currently The Winter Sounds are in the process of releasing an EP entitled "L'été des Trois Michelles", which will be followed by a new full-length album later this year. The band has changed since the original lineup; with a move to Nashville came new musicians. Keenan has carefully gathered a group of fantastic musicians to carry on the band's sound, and they are currently touring heavily in the Southeast. This new lineup consists of Patrick Keenan on lead vocals and keyboards, Renee Izzi on violin and vocals, Paul McKenna on guitar, Ellen Angelico on bass and vocals, and Joe Reilly on drums.
