The Inscape

The Inscape is: John Condit  Nick Black   Robert Hudson   Troy Wiggins

Harnessing the gritty sounds of late 1960’s San Francisco, The Inscape is a modern incarnation of psychedelic and alternative rock. Created by the California native and Tennessee transplant John Condit, The Inscape currently live and perform in the city of Nashville. With their polyester ties and beat-up vintage guitars, the Inscape has stormed stages all over the Music City, gaining momentum and building sound.

Formed in a California basement, then reformed in Nashville, The Inscape has evolved with many different members over the last four years. John Condit, frontman and lead songwriter, had the challenge of  replacing all original band members upon arrival in Nashville: “I came here looking for talented musicians  with similar tastes and musical backgrounds. After hours and hours of random jam sessions, at random times during the day, I finally found a group of guys that complemented my music.” Condit, along with his three new recruits are what fans have come to know and love as The Inscape.

In January, The Inscape released their first album, self-titled and pressed into a smooth, black 7” vinyl  record. Consisting of two tracks, Side A’s “Hypnotized” and Side B’s “Flood,” the album tears through tracks  heavy with wailing guitars and reverberated vocals. Working with Nashville veterans such as Vance Powell and Joe Palmaccio, The Inscape translate the old sounds of Ray Davies and Syd Barrett into a voice of a new generation. In support of their self-titled record, The Inscape continue to perform throughout the southeast.

Show Reviews

      2/22/11 Club--The END

From the outside looking in, most would assume the opening band would be the worst band in the set. This was not the case Tuesday night at “Rock the Block”. Not only did the Inscape have the largest attendance for their set, they rocked the house harder than the other four bands combined. Somewhere in the middle of their set, front man John Condit looks back at drummer Troy Wiggins with a little smirk, and sends them into a wild locking groove. This is something that all Inscape fans have come to know and love.

It’s the psychedelic verses that meet hypnotic jam choruses, the bass lines to get lost in, the driving blues-driven electric guitars, that make this San Francisco based indie-rock band stand out among the other boring cliché Nashville acts. By the end of the set you’re asking yourself, what just happened? Watching them from the background, you feel that they are out to prove something. They play with passion. This isn’t a game for them. They punch you in the stomach, spit in your face, but then you find yourself begging for more. The way they write the songs, the way they play them, the way it hits you, this is what makes the Inscape unlike any other in Nashville.

The crowd was going crazy. This was the second show in Nashville since their Vinyl release, and the fans had apparently been longing for more. Every line of the two singles off the EP was known. The songs seemed to turn into some type of cultic chant or roar. This show was the largest Inscape audience to date. The End was at capacity. They weren’t letting anybody else in, and no one was leaving. This begs the question, is the Inscape ready for bigger things? I think the obvious answer is yes. The experience of a live show with this band’s line up and throw down always brings a good crowd. People will HAVE to be a part of it
