SHIROCK, a pop/rock band from Nashville, TN, capitalizes on the transformative power of rock and roll. Their dynamic debut album, Everything Burns, is filled with bold, anthemic songs that bristle with restless urgency and passionate optimism. Everything Burns may sound grand and expansive, but underneath the album’s soaring arrangements are singer/songwriter at heart.
Chuck Shirock’s fervent wailing vocals combined with the band’s lyrics are rooted in the personal, political, and spiritual, all of which combine to create a tension that allows the songs to feel both personal and universal.
Both Chuck and Pap grew up listening to a mix of Christian, classical, and early rock; during the early 90’s, they were influenced by Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins, U2, The Cranberries, Depeche Mode, Peter Gabriel, etc. Pap introduced Chuck to many bands that had become “lifelong favorites” for her, which launched a musical and pop culture discovery that they went on together.
While in college, Chuck and Pap began recording demos and playing shows with various musicians. During this time many close friends came alongside them to help build a foundation for what would become SHIROCK, including Chuck’s brother, drummer Scott Shirock.
2009 was a turning point and new beginning for SHIROCK. They launched Everything Burns, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded by Chuck and Pap, which by 2010 had brought a full time director on board to oversee high school and college chapters aimed at encouraging and equipping young people to ‘live for things that matter,’ by making a practical difference in their communities and around the globe. They also expanded their Nashville based clothing line, Irock Clothing.
At the end of 2009, following consistent placements on MTV, ABC and NBC television networks, SHIROCK became the first independent band to release a CD in Hollister Co. stores worldwide.
Young people are a catalyst for change and SHIROCK’s relationship with Hollister Co. has helped the band, on a grassroots level, put their music in the hands of young people. By mid 2010, the band had to quickly re-order 10,000 units of Everything Burns to keep up with demand on the road and to restock the shelves of Hollister Co.
To top off 2010, SHIROCK partnered with the band's manager to launch a company called The Movement Group. The Movement Group houses everything SHIROCK does, including the band’s independent record label. The Movement Group has partnered with Sony, RED Distribution, and Creative Entertainment Network (CEN) to launch the label division of the company in order to take the songs on Everything Burns to the next level.
“We think being independent keeps the art of our music genuine, and the band at the center of everything we do,” says Chuck.
Everything Burns (Deluxe), featuring 20 songs and the debut music video for “New Solution” will be released digitally on February 22, 2011.
