Jonathan Sexton and the BIG LOVE CHOIR has enjoyed Knoxville’s early music scene. Having played in bands such as Oversoul, the Redhouse Project, and redhouse. After founding the heartbreaking Whiskey Scars, he took an extended break from writing and performing and an abyss of personal turbulence. He went on to acquire a master's degree and a "real job." But Jonathan soon returned to writing and performing with a new voice, a new band, and a new mentality. "Music was my identity, but I began focusing on money, how many gigs we had, and how many people were coming." "I took a trip I discovered some things, I remembered some things in Central America, and I remembered some things in my son's eyes.
It brought me back to my roots. This new vibe and message is plainly expressed in the lyrics of the new abum "Big Love", and can be felt in the conviction Sexton's voice. Sexton says "It is nice to play again, it is nice to be free of the tyranny the financial component plays in the music business, it aids in focusing on the vision of the music, the spirit of the songs, and the integrity of the message. This is all for fun now, it's about love now, not survival, and that freedom is what opened up the door to all this material, after being closed so long by fear." "It is exciting to see what can happen with no expectation and no fear. So much of the world is run by fear, so many of our decisions are fear based, but there is no fear here, not in this music, not in this band."
