Elsie Bennett is an Americana artist who grew up in Talking Rock, GA, surrounded by music from a young age, listening to oldies and church music, and being involved in choir groups. At the age of eighteen, Elsie packed up her guitar and soul and headed to Louisiana. She attended ministry school and it was here that she found her musical style and decided music was what she loved. After graduating from ministry school, Elsie once again packed up her guitar and headed to a new town. She found herself headed up north to the heart of American music, Nashville, TN. Now attending Belmont University, Elsie is able to focus on her music as a songwriting major.
Elsie Bennett, wearing thrift store shoes and vintage dresses only she can pull off, is one of the most enjoyable personalities to be around and her music reflects her personality. Growing up listening to the oldies of her parent’s generation, Elsie’s influences come from the past and a smattering from current day. Her musical inspirations include, but are not limited to, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Joanna Newsom, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Washington Phillips, Edith Piaf, and Jack White. Elsie is no stranger to the quirky fashion and music of decades past as she finds inspiration from the decade of peace, love and happiness, the ‘60s.
For Elsie, every day is another chance to find the inspiration that will develop into a new song and add a spark to her old ones. Honing her skills as a songwriter at Belmont University will only help her pave her way to make a name for herself in this decade, and perhaps inspire a few others to find their own decade to belong to.
